JOHNSON NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
The Master’s Academy traveled to Gainesville this past weekend to participate in the Oak Hall Invitational Tournament.
On Friday, the Lady Eagles went undefeated in their pool play, 3-0. TMA defeated St. John’s Lutheran from Ocala, 2-0 (25-16 and 25-20). The Lady Eagles then displaced Taylor High School, a former district opponent, after being down 2-15 in the first set. TMA finished off THS, 2-0 (25-22 and 25-17). The final game of the night was against the host school, Oak Hall. TMA lost the first set, 20-25, but the Lady Eagles rallied to upend Oak Hall in the next two sets (25-22 and 15-10), capturing the match. By the end of Saturday’s play Jenna Johnson was selected to the all-tournament team.
On Saturday, TMA played in the opening round of the gold bracket. The Lady Eagles faced Eastside—a 5A school from Gainesville. Championship hopes were on the line for both teams. Eastside was able to control the middle of the floor with their size. EHS passed the ball well which prevented TMA from playing aggressively. Eastside won 2-0 (25-13 and 25-20). The loss led to a rematch with Oak Hall in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon. Oak Hall made necessary adjustments from their defeat on Friday night to beat the Lady Eagles, 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-13, and 25-22). TMA finished the tournament in fourth place.
The Lady Eagles host Orangewood this Tuesday at 7PM. The Black and Blue Crew will be in full force, and the atmosphere will be electric. The Eagle Sports Network will be broadcasting the game on the web at www.mastersacademy.org (click the ESN link). The pregame show, Eagle Gameday, will begin at 6:45PM.
