HAGERTY DEFEATS TMA IN THREE
October 7, 2011
The Master’s Academy welcomed the Hagerty Huskies into the TMA gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Eagles, who are without Danielle Tatro due to an injury, continue to search for the lineup that gives them the best opportunity to win. Gabi Pizarro, who has played libero, outside hitter, and setter this season, returned to setting against the Huskies. “I didn’t play my best tonight, but I did alright,” commented Pizarro. Jenna Johnson, who was the beneficiary of many of the Pizarro passes, hit the ball well. Johnson had as many kill opportunities from behind the 10-foot line as she did at the net. “That was by design. That’s part of our offense…we wanted to negate their (Hagerty’s) height, so we hit the ball from farther back,” said Coach Quynh Nguyen. Throughout each set, the Eagles struggled with serve-receive, which allowed Hagerty to score in bunches. TMA played their best volleyball midway through the second set. Jordyn Macbeth was able to reel off five consecutive service points to draw within two points, 21-19. Following a Hagerty timeout, the Huskies made adjustments that secured a 25-21 second set win. After trailing 11-1 in the final set, Sarah Smith served effectively for the Eagles to pull within four points at 11-7, but the Huskies finished with a strong set to win the match, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, and 25-15).
TMA will pack their bags and travel to the Oak Hall tournament in Gainesville this weekend. Tournament games will be played on Friday and Saturday before returning home to host cross-town rival Orangewood on Tuesday, October 11th.
